The Role
An all through school specialising in Specific Learning Difficulties is seeking a committed and skilled Teacher of Humanities (Geography) to join its team. This is an opportunity to work in a highly supportive SEND environment, delivering tailored, high-quality education to pupils with cognition and learning needs outlined in their EHCPs.
You will play a key role in ensuring the geography curriculum is engaging, accessible, and meaningful, while supporting both the academic and personal development of pupils. There is also an opportunity to contribute to Religious Education, although this is not essential.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Deliver engaging, differentiated Geography lessons tailored to SEND learners
- Plan and deliver lessons aligned with EHCP targets and curriculum frameworks
- Use assessment data to track progress and adapt teaching strategies
- Develop resources incorporating the school’s morphological literacy approach (training provided)
- Promote SMSC development and embed British values within lessons
- Lead and support fieldwork and residential learning opportunities
Pastoral & Form Tutor Duties
- Act as a Form Tutor, including delivering the school’s Literacy Programme
- Provide pastoral support and maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment
- Build strong relationships with parents and carers
Collaboration
- Work closely with colleagues and senior leaders across KS2–KS4
- Contribute to school events, meetings, and wider school life
- Support and direct classroom support staff where appropriate
- Engage in extracurricular activities including trips and clubs
Assessment & Reporting
- Monitor, assess, and report on pupil progress in line with school policy
- Identify underachievement and implement targeted interventions
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Uphold safeguarding and health & safety policies at all times
- Conduct and maintain relevant risk assessments
- Embed safeguarding awareness within teaching and pastoral care
About You
- Qualified teacher with strong Geography subject knowledge
- Experience or strong interest in SEND, particularly cognition and learning needs
- Ability to deliver engaging, differentiated lessons
- Confident using data to inform teaching and improve outcomes
- Strong understanding of EHCPs and inclusive teaching strategies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A collaborative and proactive approach to working within a school environment
- Resilient, adaptable, and committed to pupil development
